What makes events exciting?

What is it that makes interclub events so appealing? Is it just the fact that its another airsoft game or something more?

Let's explore what I’ve witnessed and what I believe makes these events, something uniquely special to airsoft.

Firstly, we all know what our club game days are like, they’re definitely fun and exciting in their own way, you get to catch up with your mates, the familiar faces you see at every game - and even the new ones that come along for game days.

When an event is announced (at least this is how it is for me), there is a bit of excitement that brews within the club, some members will be immediately interested while some might gauge the room to see how many others are showing an interest. At least for my club, there's a small bunch that will put their hand up for any event that is upcoming, location dependent, the closer to home the better.

Now for the events themselves….

Depending on what you're into will really depend on whether you’ll enjoy yourself. By that, I’m meaning multiday overnight events, or single day events, or even multiday events where there's a start time and finish time and in between you’ll be at home.

I personally don't like the overnight ones - I just like my own bed. And to be fair, I’ve only ever done one overnight event. I’d probably do another one if the right one came along.

The knees that I have gone to have either been single day, or multi day with breaks in the evening to go home. These events are always so much fun! Meeting people from other clubs, and quite often other countries to go out and play airsoft and talk about something in common.

It's always the people that will make or break an event, if you have good people you’ll have fun, if not, you won't enjoy it as much. So you’ve always got to bring your best attitude to events, even more so than your club's game. For one, you don't want to look like an idiot, and two, people will likely remember your club before they remember you. Act like a fool and you’ll not only bring your name down, but also your club's name!

The events themselves vary on the game play front, some are very casual, these are generally just interclub events in New Zealand, whereas some are more milsim and mission based with uniform requirements and the like.

It is always really interesting for me to hear where some people come from, not just from within New Zealand, but around the world. I attended an event a couple of years ago that had people from Canada, USA, Australia, Italy. It was really awesome to meet people who play the same sport in such different countries.

If you’ve never attended an airsoft event, why not? The next one you see come up. Do it!
